Abu Simbel Temples
The Abu Simbel Temples, carved into a mountainside by Pharaoh Ramses II, are among Egypt's most awe-inspiring monuments. This UNESCO World Heritage Site features two massive temples dedicated to Ramses and his queen, Nefertari. The grand façade of the main temple is adorned with four colossal statues of Ramses, each standing at 20 meters tall. The complex was relocated to its current location to save it from the rising waters of Lake Nasser, showcasing the incredible engineering skills of ancient and modern Egyptians alike.
